The neighborhood is on land that was part of a Spanish land grant called Rancho Rincon de los Bueyes. Cheviot Hills is home to 2 popular 18 hole golf courses.
The public golf course is known as the Rancho Park Golf Course and is one of the most played courses in the United States.
By contrast, just across the street is the Hillcrest Country Club, a private, members only course that receives a fraction of the play.
