Monochromatic and not enthralling: are those descriptions from New York Timesreview of the second season of HBO’s True Detective or a review of this house owned by one of the stars of the series, Vince Vaughn? Maybe both, depending on your taste. The five-bedroom La Cañada Flintridge mansion was purchased by the actor a little over two years ago, and judging from the old photos, Vaughn and family have made some adjustments, at least cosmetically, that carry on the tradition of the place as being a “house your parents would love.”

The nearly three-quarter-acre property holds a pool, a sprawling playhouse, and a large expanse of lawn. The interior of the house is almost overwhelmingly white and features a library with wood paneling, a swooping staircase in the entryway, a formal dining room, and a kitchen with a butler’s pantry. All the five bedrooms have their own bathrooms, though there are a total of six in the house. Vaughn paid $3.925 million back in 2013. It’s now listed for $5.299 million. Vaughn still owns the Craftsman-inspired estate in Manhattan Beach he bought from fired USC football coach Lane Kiffin last spring.
