Season Two of HBO’s True Detective—shot largely in and around Los Angeles— wrapped up last night, and the people who stuck it out long enough to find out what the hell was going on this season finally got to see all the (un)satisfying conclusions to the mysteries spun over eight episodes, including the killing-off of some but, of course, not all of the protagonists. Whether you liked it or really really hated it, this season did make great use of Los Angeles and its surrounding cities, showing off the famed freeways in aerial shot after aerial shot, LA’s underground pedestrian tunnels, and LA’s tiny neighbor Vernon in the role of depressing, corrupt Vinci (typecasting!). The last three episodes of the season took viewers all over Southern California, from the killing sheds of Mount Baldy to the train stations of Orange County.
