This past June, Santa Monica-based NPR affiliate/fun-time radio station KCRW broke ground on its big, bright new headquarters at Santa Monica College. KCRW’s new Media Center, designed by Clive Wilkinson Architects, will find its home in the SMC Academy of Entertainment & Technology campus, which is being redesigned by the same architectural firm. Today, in anticipation of the three-story office/studio/event space that’s to come, KCRW posted a short and sweet time-lapse video of their future home coming together.
Intially expected to be finished in early 2016, it seems like it might be more toward the end of the year before KCRW’s hosting parties in their new digs. “We will be welcoming you in a year from now to celebrate this emergence from the basement,” the station says, in reference to the actual basement on SMC’s campus that they’ve been broadcasting out of for the last 30 years.
