Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti must be confident he’s going to continue living in the Getty House for another term as mayor, because he’s just unloaded yet another home on the eastish side—the mayor and his wife Amy Wakeland have sold their house in Echo Park for $1.705 million.
The couple have held on to the Echo Park house since 2000, when they bought it for $345,000, meaning they just took in a cool $1.36 million on their investment (though they did do a lot of renovations). Garcetti is certainly benefitting from the booming eastish side housing market, even nabbing $55,000 above the asking price. Before putting it on the market, Garcetti and Wakeland had been renting the place out for $4,500 a month since 2011.
They’re leaving behind a 1953 post and beam home designed by Daniel L. Dworsky. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house sits on about half an acre of land, tucked up in the hills near Elysian Park, so the views from the ample patios surrounding the property are stunning.
The home got a lot of love from Garcetti and Wakeland while they were living there, including environmental upgrades like the addition of solar panels and recycled plastic sliding doors. Garcetti and Wakeland even got a 2008 cover story in Dwell for their well-curated midcentury decor. The Mayor and his wife might also miss the terraced organic vegetable garden and citrus orchard in the backyard, where they reportedly grew a lot of their own food.
Garcetti is seasoned in this housing market. Last year, he and Wakeland sold another home in Silver Lake to Anthony Gonzalez, leader of the band M83, for $1.9 million. The mayor and his wife have been living in the Getty House mayoral residence for the past two years. It kinda raises the question…where will Garcetti live when his term as mayor ends?
