The late actor Carroll O’Connor was most famous for his role as the namesake old racist on All in the Family, but he also should have been famous for his cool taste in houses. This residence he and his family owned from the 1950s to 2007 (they sold to the current owners, says listing agent Elisabeth Halsted) is a very cool, midcentury number sited on over an acre of property that’s actually three parcels.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom house was built in 1953 and shares the land with a guesthouse and mature gardens that give the house even more privacy. The few photos of the interior show a fixer with potential and fantastic views: The beachfront residence has 126 feet of beach frontage.

The sale price includes the Coastal Commission-approved plans to replace O’Connor’s one-time pad with an over-10,000-square-foot blocky contemporary. That house would have five bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, two offices, and a gym with a sauna. The whole package is asking $31.5 million.
