More new housing is in the works for Westlake, the neighborhood between Downtown and Koreatown that’s begun to hum with development. Daniel Seong Kim, through his company Just Property Investment, LLC, filed plans with the city last week to erect a new building at 1322 West Maryland Street, between West 3rd and West 6th streets, off Bonnie Brae Street. (That’s walking distance to MacArthur Park and the Westlake/MacArthur Park Metro station.)

The building would stand eight stories and house 47 apartments, all but two of which would be studios. Four of the units would be earmarked for tenants with very low incomes. According to Deoné Sulgatti of The Code Solution, which is representing the developer, the studios would range from 275 to 380 square feet. The apartments would sit above ground-floor commercial space: 760 square feet of retail at street-level and 1,120 square feet of offices on the second story.

The Real Deal reports that Kim owns Just Kids on South, a clothing store for kids on San Pedro Street. He purchased the site at 1322 West Maryland, which measures 8,111 square feet, in October for $2.05 million, city records show.
