Last week the Los Angeles Timeswrote about a flurry of interest in Jefferson Park, where young professionals and flippers, priced out of such neighborhoods as Culver City and Santa Monica, are snatching up more “affordably” priced Craftsman and bungalows. Commercial developers are picking up land in the area, too, with one calling it, “one of the best neighborhoods left.” So we were surprised by only a skosh to spot on the Department of City Planning’s website today plans to convert a six-story medical building off Western Avenue and Adams Boulevard into a housing complex.
There’s no applicant listed yet, but the developer, whoever it might be, is planning for 60 housing units. No word yet on whether those will be apartments or condos.
The most intriguing part of the plan is the addition of rooftop bar and restaurant with 160 seats (68 indoors and 100 outside) that would operate from 11 to 2 a.m. daily.
The 4,000-square-foot property, last sold in August for $9.7 million, according to property records, is at 2231 South Western Boulevard in a mostly residential area. Vacant now, the 84,396-square-foot building was constructed in 1971.
