This breezy two-story house, designed by architect Charles Ward, sits on a lot north of Montana Avenue in Santa Monica—a pretty posh location. Though full of elements like glass and concrete, the house never comes off as cold.

On the ground floor, the kitchen is outfitted with built-in seating, plus there’s a fireplace and large hearth, two bedrooms, and an “oversized converted/flex space garage” on the ground floor. Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms “separated by a gallery bridge and library.” Throughout the house, such industrial-looking materials as polished concrete mingle with wood, including with the exposed ceiling beams in many of the rooms.

The slim backyard has water features and connections to the space via handful of balconies and, on the ground floor, double doors.

Measuring about 3,500 square feet, the house, built in 2002, according to Redfin, is listed for $4.9 million.
