When Case Study architect Thornton Abell’s former residence in Santa Monica Canyon last popped up for sale, back in 2012, the 1937 International-style property was looking quite the worse for wear. Happily, since then, things have really turned around for the Abell house, which returned to the market last week looking fresh as a daisy.
Per the listing, the three-bedroom, three-bath home’s comeback was overseen by architect Scott Prentice, whose other restoration projects include the historic 1924 Marquez Filling Station and a Neutra house in Northern California.
Features of the pedigreed property include walls of glass, hardwood and stained-concrete floors, abundant built-in shelving, multiple decks and patios, stunning views, and a separate creative studio/guest house. Situated on a quarter-acre lot near Rustic Park, it’s asking $3.7 million.
