Crooner Rufus Wainwright has locked down a fantastic storybook house in the Hollywood Hills, paying $1.45 million, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Built in 1926, the dwelling measures about 2,100 square feet, and with three bedrooms and three baths is hardly a humble cottage, though it does have the look and feel of one, inside and out.

The house is approached by a steep staircase, and the whimsical front door at the top of the flight of stairs opens onto a step-down living room with a fireplace, exposed beams, and a few large, paned windows whose views of the surrounding foliage give the house a very treehouse-like quality.

The kitchen is decidedly modern, featuring marble counters and fancy appliances.

Upstairs, the master bedroom features an enormous bay window and a master bathroom with a soaking tub, sit-down tiled shower, and travertine everywhere.

Outdoor spaces include two outdoor patios and “a pond with a lover’s bridge.”

The Times says the house had been on and off the market a few times over the last few years, most recently asking $1.499 million. The singer/songwriter paid $1.45 million.
