This one-bedroom unit in the famed Baldwin Hills complex, the Village Green, has a lovely, 1940s exterior and a thoroughly updated interior.

Completed in 1942, the Village Green is the only garden apartment complex in the state on the National Register of Historic Places, according to the Los Angeles Conservancy. The complex’s grounds contain acres of park-like green spaces and the residences face these central grounds, giving everyone a serene view of trees and lawns.

For sale right now is a 849-square-foot unit with a dining room and a living room, the latter which opens onto a large rear patio enclosed by a high fence. Inside, it’s bright white, but the restored parquet floors are warm—they’re also a one of the few details that hint at the unit’s long history.

The condo’s galley-style kitchen has a crisp, modern look, thanks to stainless steel appliances and quartz counters. A set of windows at one end of the kitchen let in light.

The bathroom has a separate tub and subway-tiled shower enclosure, as well as Carrara marble floors.

This unit in the historic complex is listed for $399,000.
