A lot of new buildings are going up in the increasingly hip Arts District, but one of the most anticipated—if not the most anticipated projects—is the Soho Warehouse, the future Downtown LA outpost of the chic, members-only club Soho House, which has locations worldwide, including ones in West Hollywood and Malibu.

But the opening date for Soho Warehouse at South Santa Fe Avenue and Bay Street is a moving target. The club first said it would open in 2016, then in late spring 2017. Now communications manager Brooke Swilley tells Curbed the opening date is pegged for 2018. She declined to state why, noting only that,“we are still in the planning stages.”

Construction delays are common, but we’re tracking this one closely, because it’s a big deal for the Arts District.

In 2015, TheHollywood Reporter dubbed the exclusive Soho House “the most important club in Hollywood—a high-wattage magnet for A-listers and dealmakers.” Its anticipated arrival in the Arts District has been credited with driving up real estate values in the area.

Soho Warehouse will hold a “public market” with a restaurant and bar on the ground floor, and atop that, a spa and salon, a gym, 16 hotel rooms, a screening room, a club and bar and restaurant, and a rooftop pool and observation deck.

The club, which caters to “creative types,” is taking over a six-story brick building that had provided recording and practice space for musicians since 1989.

We hear the 2018 opening likely means summer 2018 and that construction on the site at 1000 South Santa Fe should ramp up in a few months.
