Santa Monica-based architect Hagy Belzberg is known for making dramatic statements with his designs, this edgy modern perched atop a Malibu mountain being a prime example.

Completed in 1998, the angular residence was designed for Bata Mataja, a serious car collector and founder of a company that customizes vehicles for commercials. As he explained in an interview with the cable TV show Car Crazy, Mataja had the architect incorporate a car gallery within the home’s interior to accommodate a rotating selection of automobiles from his prized collection. There’s also a cavernous garage and 20-car motor court, naturally.

Along with its auto showroom, the 7,500-square-foot home contains five bedrooms and four and a half baths. Features include concrete slab floors, a double-sided fireplace, built-ins, walls of glass serving up master-of-the-universe views, and a saltwater pool and spa. A separate guest house, designed by architect George Wittman in 2000, overlooks the main residence.

Located on a 32-acre parcel bordering national parkland, the property is on the market with an asking price of $12.5 million.
