Laid-back and stylish, the 10-story hotel is located within the big Sunset|LaCienega project, a Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed development comprised of two towers. Those towers, located at the western side of the intersection, will also hold 190 residential units and 40,000 square feet of retail space, including a new Fred Segal store.
Among the 286 hotel rooms are nearly three dozen suites, including two penthouse lofts with private terraces, two bungalow suites with direct access to the pool, and nine “James suites,” which measure over 600 square feet and feature floor-to-ceiling windows.
Previous reports have described the hotel’s decor and cool, muted palette as a reflection of the the local landscape—the Pacific Ocean, the Hollywood hills, and the San Gabriel Mountains.
When the hotel opens in May, room rates will be $399 a night. After June, they’ll jump to $519 a night.
To celebrate the hotel’s opening, the James partnered with the David Lynch Foundation, an organization founded by the Twin Peaks director to help spread transcendental meditation techniques to kids and adults worldwide. Because why not?
The partnership produced a colorful film titled “A New Sunrise Over Sunset” that takes place inside the hotel. According to the release:
Inspired by the contemporary culture of Los Angeles, “A New Sunrise Over Sunset” is broken into three themed vignettes titled “Connection”, “Consciousness” and “Community” after The James’ three core brand pillars, which invoke emotion through subliminal storytelling utilizing color and sound. The film radiates both visual and sonic references to the work of David Lynch and the Foundation.
