Spring is in the air and the wildflowers are blooming in Southern California. In fact, the eastern part of the region is experiencing a “super bloom” unlike anything seen in the area since 2005.

With once-in-a-decade type growth in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, many day trippers headed for the Colorado Desert this weekend, snapping some terrific photos of the fields of flowers sprouting up in the area.

According to park officials, the super bloom is just getting started, and flowers should continue to speckle the landscape until at least the end of the month. The blooms were brought on by a wet winter, which brought seven inches of rainfall to the park, as National Geographic reports. Cool weather also helped, keeping moisture in the ground for longer than usual.

For help finding the blooms, check out the park’s wildflower updates page. According to the latest update, visitors can now expect traffic jams getting to the park, so it’s probably best to leave as early as possible if you’re planning on heading out that way.

Here are a few pictures of the awe-inspiring blooms popping up in the park.

Of course, Anza-Borrego isn’t the only place to see blooms right now. Poppies, and other wildflowers, are sprouting up to dramatic effect around Diamond Valley Lake.
