Hollywood is awash in construction, but East Hollywood, its eclectic, transit-friendly neighbor, is getting in on the action, too. A mini boom of development is bringing hundreds of new apartments to the community right now.
Bounded by Hollywood and Beverly boulevards and Western Avenue and Sunset Boulevard/Hoover Street, East Hollywood is home to Thai Town and Little Armenia, Barnsdall Park, and four subway stops. The latter, along with its central location and proximity to other trendy ’hoods (Silver Lake and Los Feliz, for example) could very likely explain East Hollywood’s appeal to real estate developers.
New buildings are sprouting up as the neighborhood gains recognition for its flourishing bar and restaurant scene. Just this month, Eater LA proclaimed that East Hollywood is emerging one of the “most desirable dining scenes” in Los Angeles. Perhaps its newfound popularity is what’s driving one new coffeeshop’s effort to nickname the area “EaHo.” [Insert eye roll emoji].
We’ve mapped a dozen of new buildings planned or under construction for East Hollywood. We’re also tracking development in a handful of other pockets of Los Angeles; take a look:
