Four years after it first listed, John Lautner’s fabulous 1968 Stevens’ House in Malibu Colony has sold for $11.8 million. Trulia reports that the buyer is actor Edward Norton, who already owns in Malibu. The seller is architecture collector and movie producer Michael LaFetra.

LaFetra bought the house in 2007 for $13.8 million and fully restored it, reversing some insensitive changes that had been made to the residence (e.g. painting all the lovely concrete white). The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Stevens’ residence was designed by Lautner in 1968—the same year that he designed his famed Elrod House in Palm Springs. The house is made of concrete, with a roof “composed of two … curved concrete shells,” according to an assessment performed for the national register.

The interiors are concrete and cedar, and the house features cork floors, solar power, and large custom glass sliding doors that allow for the ocean breezes to flow through the house, LaFetra has said in a post about the landmark on his website.

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom house is right on the beach in the exclusive and gated Malibu Colony. The house looks reminiscent of the waves that wash up on the sand behind the structure.

The Stevens’ Residence has been on and off the market since 2013, and was listed for as much as $22 million.
