A new apartment complex may be headed for La Brea Avenue in Mid-Wilshire, according to plans filed with the city Tuesday.

The mixed use development would replace a row of commercial buildings constructed in the 1920s and 1950s. It would include a total of 67 units of housing, with six of them set aside for tenants making under half of LA County’s median income.

The project would also include 2,400 square feet of ground-level commercial space and parking for 94 vehicles.

The developer of the project, listed as 1180 La Brea, LLC, is requesting a density bonus from the city, allowing the project to be 35 percent denser than area zoning requirements would normally allow.

The proposed project site isn’t far from the landmark Firestone Tire building that developer Conroy Commercial plans to transform into a food hall and microbrewery. It’s also less than a mile from the future Wilshire/La Brea station, expected to open in 2023 as part of Metro’s extension of the Purple Line, which will eventually travel to Westwood.
