Another major development is on the way to Koreatown, joining at least 40 other projects planned for the booming neighborhood.
Plans filed with the city yesterday call for an eight-story apartment complex with 61 units of housing at 689 South Catalina Street. The apartments would be located right next to the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools, which replaced the former Ambassador Hotel in 2010 (they’d also be a few steps from historic and photogenic bar The Prince).
The structure would rise from the site of an existing surface parking lot.
Not much more about the project is clear right now, other than the fact that the developer has requested a reduction in the amount of side and rear yard space required for the structure.
It certainly won’t be the only large building going up in the area. Just a half-block away, prolific developer Jamison Services is planning a pair of structures with 641 apartments and commercial space. A block to the south, Colony Holdings has long proposed a 27-story tower with 269 residential units.
