A new Koreatown hotel could soon sprout from a parking lot in the rapidly developing neighborhood.

Plans filed with the city Friday call for a new mixed-use project at the southeast corner of Eighth Street and Mariposa Avenue, close to the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools complex and within a stone’s throw of several other big developments in the area.

The project would include 80 hotel rooms, along with eight units for longterm residents (it’s not clear whether they’d be apartments or condominiums). There would also be 7,181 square feet of commercial space, including two restaurants.

This is one of many hotel projects now planned for the area, including a major expansion of the historic Wilshire Galleria, a 33-story tower that would include 200 hotel rooms, and a post office-replacing mixed-use development—also with 200 rooms.

Right next to the project site, a separate developer is planning an ambitious two-part project that would bring nearly 175 new condos to the neighborhood.
