A 100-percent affordable housing development planned atop the Vermont/Santa Monica Red Line station in East Hollywood appears to be chugging steadily ahead.
New renderings released by developer Little Tokyo Service Center show how the six-story project would fit in at the southwest corner of the busy intersection near Los Angeles City College.
Designed by Birba Group Architects, the project, which spans 1.5 acres, would hold 160 affordable residential units that would be available to people making 30 to 60 percent of the area median income. Half of the units would be reserved for tenants with special needs.
At street level, the development would hold 21,000 square feet of commercial space.
The renderings, first spotted by Urbanize LA, show that apartment balconies along all sides of the project and an open plaza and outdoor dining around the entrance to the subway station.
The development would open across from a new music venue, expected to open by the end of 2018 in a converted theater on the southeast corner of Vermont and Santa Monica. Alexander Massachi, vice president of MCAP Partners, which owns the venue, says the new music space will “become the gold standard for the ultimate concert and event-going experience.
